Peterborough Younger Walkers Annual Report
November 2012 – October 2013

2013? Not unlucky for us. Membership still running near highest level and record attendance at our recent AGM – 31 plus guest!

The New Year was seen in at Bath (or Showers and Baths as the report on website is appropriately titled). Opa! Say no more.

For the umpteenth year in a row the Group had Easter away, this time on the Pembrokeshire Coast. With a handy base in Tenby we successfully experimented with coach hire to take us from the end of the linear walks, where everyone parked, to the start. We encountered lots of weather as usual.

Smaller but no less enjoyable trips away were made to Southwold (great weather), Edale (great weather for ducks) and the Lake District (foggy weather but The Old Man of Coniston conquered it’s believed).

On the Sunday walking front there was the usual mix of walks near and far, old and new. Highlights included an 18 miler (Peterborough to Stamford), Castle Bytham with a Sunday roast (very popular), and Brancaster to Wells (you can’t beat the seaside). Unfortunately we also had our first ever cancelled walk (the snow really was bad).

The Summer evening walks proved more popular than ever so we must try and squeeze a few more in although it’s important some walk leaders remember when dark o’clock is!

Social events were well attended with lots of the favourites (Beer Fest, BBQ, laser quest, Tolethorpe and meals out) being joined by some new ones, wine tasting in particular. I’m sure that will be repeated. We continued up market for the Christmas meal with a splendid repast at The Crown at Elton.

On the sporting front the PYW Croquet tournament was won this year by Mike and Kate. The annual Crazy Golf was won by Roger C. The PYW quiz team, the Quizzy Rascals, continued to win on a regular basis!

So what does 2014 hold? Well Easter in Northumberland for a start and hopefully more some other new destinations as well. Let’s get that mileage up!
